Real Opinions
+Positive
“If you make it through, the job is incredible. Small teams, high trust, meaningful missions.”
“The brotherhood is real. Nothing else in the military compares.”
–Negative & Mixed
“Your body will be your tool, but it will also be the price you pay. Chronic pain, joint problems, and injuries are near certainties for special ops veterans.”
“You cannot talk about your work with almost anyone. This inability to share creates a wall. SEALs have one of the highest divorce rates in the military.”

What the recruiter says vs. what it's actually like.
🫡 Recruiter says
“This is the most elite program in the military. You will be among the best of the best!”
💀 Reality
Source: MyNavyRates researchThe attrition rate is 50-80%. Most candidates do not complete the pipeline and get reassigned to fleet needs. Physical and mental demands are extreme and ongoing.
🫡 Recruiter says
“If you're in good shape, you'll make it through BUD/S”
💀 Reality
Source: RallyPointBeing in good shape is the bare minimum. BUD/S is 80% mental. Collegiate athletes, marathon runners, and elite swimmers quit every class. The guys who make it are often not the strongest — they're the ones who refuse to ring the bell no matter what. Physical fitness gets you to the door. Mental toughness gets you through it.

Getting Started
How do you choose the right Navy rate for you?
Choosing a Navy rate means weighing your ASVAB scores, lifestyle preferences, civilian career goals, and willingness to deploy or go to sea. Start by identifying which ratings you qualify for, then narrow the list by what matters most to you.
Getting Started
What is the ASVAB and what scores do you need?
The ASVAB is a multi-aptitude test that determines which Navy ratings you qualify for. Your sub-test scores combine into line scores, and each rating has minimum line-score requirements. Higher scores open more options.
