Navy Jobs That Don't Go on Ships in 2026
Not everyone joins the Navy to go to sea. These ratings have the highest shore duty percentages and the smallest deployable billet base, keeping you at a stateside command for most of your career.
Be careful with the word “ship” here: for an aviation rating, a squadron homeported at a stateside air station is still sea duty, because the squadron deploys with the carrier air wing. What keeps you off a deployment is a shore billet — a schoolhouse, a Fleet Readiness Center, a regional support activity — not an indoor job.
