Real Opinions
+Positive
“I would recommend LSS to anyone considering it. The training is solid and the community takes care of its own.”
“If you are a Submarine LS, you are in a very small community that is tightly knit, and advancement is pretty decent compared to regular LS.”
–Negative & Mixed
“Like any rate, LSS has its downsides. Long hours, time away from family, and Navy bureaucracy are real.”
“LS on a submarine means you're responsible for all supply, food ordering, and logistics for 130+ people in a confined space. When you run out of something underway, there's no resupply — you have to make it work. The pressure of keeping the boat fed and supplied is constant and the mistakes are very visible.”

“I averaged 3 hours of sleep a night. I have personally gone without sleep for so long that I have seen and heard things that weren't there. An LSS stands watches on top of their full supply workload — on subs there is no slack.”

Getting Started
How do you choose the right Navy rate for you?
Choosing a Navy rate means weighing your ASVAB scores, lifestyle preferences, civilian career goals, and willingness to deploy or go to sea. Start by identifying which ratings you qualify for, then narrow the list by what matters most to you.
Getting Started
What is the ASVAB and what scores do you need?
The ASVAB is a multi-aptitude test that determines which Navy ratings you qualify for. Your sub-test scores combine into line scores, and each rating has minimum line-score requirements. Higher scores open more options.
